What is Indoor Playground

Indoor playgrounds, also known as indoor play centers, are playgrounds located in interior environment. They are specifically designed for kids to play in and have tremendous fun with. The soft-contained structure and play equipment are wrapped in soft foam to absorb the impact when children fall or bounce around. As such, an indoor playground is usually a safer play area compared to an outdoor playground.

Since its origination in 1990′s from the US, indoor playground has enjoyed immense popularity all over the world. Today, it has evolved from simple indoor climbing frame, to complex children play center that includes multiple play areas serving different age groups. In addition to ticket sales, the revenue of indoor playground comes from a diverse source of children’s entertainment and services such as: hosting party, gift sale, kids art and craft, drinks, and more.

Indoor playgrounds can vary hugely in terms of sizes and play features. while small indoor playground may be mainly a soft-contained play structure, Large indoor playgrounds, sometimes a part of a family entertainment center, can span across over 1000 square metres, and include the following sections:

Indoor play structure:

Traditional indoor play structure, often referred as soft play area or indoor climbing frame, is indispensable to any indoor playground. They can be as simple as a small soft play structure with basic play events like a slide and a ball pool, or a complicated multi-level play system that includes hundreds of play events and features custom-built theme elements.

The difference between “indoor play structure” and “custom indoor playground” is that the later includes more play area or function area such as cafe area, thus is a complete indoor play center.

Interactive soft play:

As opposed to the static traditional soft play, interactive soft play equipment are installed with electronic components such as motor, LED lights, speakers and sensors, thus offer greater interactivity and a more engaging play experience, it is also called electric soft play. Interactive soft play is favorite play events of children between 2-6.

Ball blaster area:

Ball blaster, also known as ballocity or ball battle, is a self-contained play area that is installed with many guns, cannon, and other play equipment that shoot foam balls. Ball blaster attracts more 6-12 years old children than any other play equipment. Toddler area:

The toddler’s area features toddler children’s favorite play equipment such as mini slide, soft play toys, play panels, large building blocks, ball pool, kids pretend play, and other toys used in pretending games. Some electric soft play equipments are also perfect for the toddler area.

Children art and craft area:

In art and craft area, children can learn to create their own DIY art works, such as modeling clay and mosaic art, these activities are greatly beneficial to kids’ development, they are thus loved by both children and parents. For indoor playgrounds, the art and craft area can contribute to an amazingly large part of the revenue and profit. The art and craft area is usually located outside the playground to keep quiet and accessible.

Gaming area:

Large indoor playground and family entertainment centers usually have an area outside of the main play area dedicated to kids-friendly arcade games, which may include kiddie rides, voucher games, and other arcade games that are suitable for children below 12.

Party room or area:

Birthday party, holiday party, and party for special events are a great source of revenue, and a great way to promote your indoor playground business, if there is enough space in your play center, a beautifully decorated party room will attract a lot of customers to host their parties.

Indoor playground and family entertainment center are the best place to sell gift and toys, inexpensive items such as key chains and plush toys under 20 or 10 dollars sell very well in playground of all sizes.
